We are seeking a motivated, creative, and meticulous bench scientist with a track record in developing 3D Cell and Tissue Models. The candidate will join the Translational Models group within our Human Biology department in GSK’s Research Technologies organization at the Stevenage site in the United Kingdom. The translational model teams’ mission is to improve predictive and translational value of preclinical 3D cell and tissue models for identification of new targets, mechanism of action, efficacy, safety and metabolism. We aim to ultimately use these systems to refine, reduce, and replace animal models. Our group engages in dynamic, matrixed collaborative projects across therapeutic areas working closely with research units and technology platform groups.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role you will

  • Design, develop and implement optimized process for 3D bioprinting of cells, tissues and organs for screening therapeutics for efficacy and toxicity across healthy and diseased conditions of lung, liver, kidney, gut, brain and connective tissue.
  • Develop and deploy automation driven complex in vitro cellular assays for clinical relevance.
  • Collaborate in a matrix team and cross-functional environment to ensure optimal delivery of project and department objectives to the highest possible scientific standard.
  • Write protocols, design and execute laboratory experiments, apply advanced data analysis, interpret data, compile reports, and communicate findings with an emphasis on providing appropriate context in order to progress projects and/or develop platforms.
  • As required train lab personnel in bioprinting applications.

Why you?

Qualifications & Skills:

  • PhD (or equivalent), MS or BS (or equivalent) with extensive experience in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences or related field of study.
  • Strong and hands on background in cell and tissue engineering, biomaterials, CAD modelling and code development for bioprinting applications.
  • Experience in designing and integration of 3D bioprinted constructs and microfabricated perfusable systems.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills and ability to work independently and in team environment with rapid turnaround time in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Extensive experience and deep knowledge in 3D bioprinting and microfabrication to generate complex structures of cells, tissues and organs mimicking in vivo architecture and biology.
  • Expertise in development and printing of natural and synthetic biomaterials including additive manufacturing.
  • Significant hands-on-experience with automation to drive repeatability and reliability of bioprinted constructs.
  • A track record of clear, concise, and effective communication to project teams, presentation of oral presentations, written reports and publications in bioprinting.
  • Experience in the integration of molecular profiling data including omics and functional responses to drive phenotypic validation.

This role is based in the United Kingdom and will require on-site work at our Stevenage site. Hybrid working options may be available depending on project needs.
