We are looking for a motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer/Energy Manager to join our Utilities and Facilities team. The Ware Campus is a cornerstone of GSK’s global manufacturing network, producing Respiratory devices and Oral Solid Dose medicines. As the launch site for many of GSK’s new medicines, it is a hub of innovation, sustainability, and engineering excellence.
About the Role
You will act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for electrical systems and energy management at the Ware Campus. You will manage a team of highly skilled engineers and subcontractors to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of electrical engineering services and energy projects. This role will also drive sustainability initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, enhance operational reliability, and align with GSK’s Net Zero Carbon targets.
Key areas of responsibility include overseeing the site’s electrical infrastructure, supporting the delivery of high-impact capital projects, managing energy regulatory requirements, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Management and Development
Manage a team of electrical engineers, including senior engineers, engineers, and placement students, ensuring effective delivery of projects and services.
Manage subcontractors and on-site engineering teams carrying out electrical works.
Develop training plans for team members and advise managers on improving the expertise of engineers and technicians in both HV and LV systems.
Act as the electrical SME within value stream teams to maintain and enhance team capability.
2. Electrical Infrastructure Ownership
Serve as the Senior Authorised Person for the site’s High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) electrical distribution systems, including fire detection and intruder protection systems.
Own and maintain all electrical engineering standards, ensuring compliance with GSK standards, GMP regulations, and relevant legislation.
3. Energy Management and Sustainability
Develop and implement strategies to reduce emissions, aligned with GSK’s Net Zero Carbon goals.
Oversee the site’s energy regulatory requirements, including UKETS, MCPD, and CHPQA compliance.
Identify and implement renewable energy technologies, embedded generation systems, and energy-saving initiatives.
Oversee energy usage trends, identify opportunities for optimisation, and deliver measurable business benefits.
4. Capital Project Delivery
Support the safe and compliant delivery of high-value electrical and energy management capital projects, including substation upgrades, data center installations, PV systems, and CHP/EDG generators for critical areas.
Drive innovation by leveraging technologies like Schneider EcoStruxure for condition-based monitoring.
Develop the site capital and facility plans for electrical engineering and energy reduction projects.
5. Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
Build strong relationships with external organisations, including energy providers, consultants, and suppliers.
Act as the IET site contact for professional registration, encouraging team members to achieve EngTech, IEng, or CEng certifications.
Collaborate with other GSK sites and above-site groups to share best practices and implement standardised engineering solutions.
6. Performance and Continuous Improvement
Monitor electrical system performance data to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
Coach the team in problem solving methods to prevent deviations and enhance operational reliability.
Develop root cause strategies for complex issues and implement long-term solutions.
About You
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced electrical engineering manager with a strong background in energy management, compliance and sustainability.
Essential Requirements:
A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Extensive experience in electrical engineering, including HV/LV systems, distribution networks, and compliance with electrical standards.
Strong knowledge of energy management systems and renewable energy technologies.
Familiarity with GMP regulations and compliance requirements for engineering operations.
Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and management skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
Professional registration with the IET (EngTech, IEng, or CEng).
Experience in developing and implementing sustainability initiatives to reduce carbon emissions.
Knowledge of compliance requirements for UKETS, MCPD, and CHPQA regulations.
Familiarity with condition-based monitoring technologies (e.g., Schneider EcoStruxure).
Expertise in GPS tools and DMAIC problem-solving methods.
