Job Purpose:
The Global Medical Director role is designed for an experienced, innovative, and proactive medical professional who is passionate about advancing the understanding of the value of our medicines and vaccines. You will develop and implement global medical scientific strategies to generate insights, shape optimal care through scientific dialogue and education, and deliver impactful solutions that address gaps in medical care.

As a Global Medical Director, you will play a critical role in generating and communicating evidence, developing practice-changing plans, and driving the understanding of the science and public health impact of our products. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to achieving GSK’s goal of getting Ahead of Disease Together, positively influencing patient and population health outcomes globally.

Key Responsibilities:

Global Medical Strategy and Execution:

  • Support the Global Medical Portfolio and Asset Strategy Leads in the development and timely execution of Global Medical Affairs Plans (MAP) and Integrated Evidence Plans (IEP) in partnership with key stakeholders through the Global Medical Affairs Team (GMAT) and Integrated Evidence Team (IET).

  • Partner extensively with Local Operating Company (LOC) teams to deeply understand landscape needs, market value drivers, unmet medical needs, and timelines for deliverables that drive success.

  • Collaborate across the internal ecosystem and with external partners to deliver Medical Plans that prioritize external impact, adherence to timelines, and budget optimization.

  • Input into the design of clinical trials and development plans to optimize positive patient outcomes by leveraging insights and learnings.

Scientific Engagement and Communication:

  • Drive excellence in scientific engagement by building a strong collaborative network of global external experts (HCPs, patients, payors, and regulators) to advance clinical care and patient outcomes in partnership with LOC Medical teams.

  • Lead the creation and implementation of an integrated external medical communications plan that considers all channels (including publications and congresses) and key market needs.

  • Develop and communicate strategic publication plans in collaboration with the Publications Lead and other stakeholders.

Evidence Generation:

  • Engage across the ecosystem, including R&D, Evidence Generation, Global Product Strategy, and country teams, to identify and prioritize evidence generation needs to close gaps and support the optimization of clinical care, aligned to the IEP.

  • Review GSK-sponsored and investigator-sponsored study (ISS) proposals to assess their strategic alignment and scientific merit, in partnership with R&D, safety, biostatistics, and other experts.

Medical Expertise and Governance:

  • Develop deep subject matter expertise on the product and therapy area, coupled with the ability to drive proactive strategic planning.

  • Ensure robust knowledge of relevant and emerging clinical evidence within the team and support the creation and delivery of high-quality scientific materials for internal and external use.

  • Partner with Global Product Strategy, Market Access, and core country teams to advise on core claims, material review, and regulatory documentation.

  • Oversee medical governance by managing product-related issues with potential impact on patient safety and ensuring risk assessment and mitigation plans are developed and implemented.

Leadership and Innovation:

  • Foster a culture of future-ready innovation, delivering faster and more specific solutions for patients.

  • Inspire and motivate team members in a matrix environment, fostering collaboration and strong partnerships.

  • Lead and manage multiple priorities and projects, ensuring delivery of high-quality results.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • MD/MBBS/PharmD or PhD.

  • Experience in Medical Affairs, including roles in LOC or Global teams.

  • Experience in pre/peri-launch and lifecycle management phases of assets.

  • Experience in Scientific Communication and Evidence Generation.

  • Experience in presenting or speaking at conferences and congresses.

  • Experience of managing multiple projects, budgets, and interactions simultaneously.

  • Experience of working within a matrix environment.

  • Experience of managing internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Previous clinical or scientific experience in vaccines.

  • Robust understanding of internal and external codes of practice and regulations.

  • Demonstrated matrix leadership, with the ability to build strong networks, manage complexity, and foster cultural diversity.

  • Experience in medical support for briefing documents for regulatory interactions and payor dossiers.

  • General understanding of statistics, safety, and regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing global or local medical strategies and asset launches, particularly in priority markets.

  • Skilled in balancing scientific data with the practical healthcare delivery needs of diverse health systems to optimize the implementation of medical innovation.
