Step into the role of a Senior Principal Architect at JPMorganChase and become a driving force behind the development and adoption of cutting-edge, cloud-based technologies.

As a Senior Principal Architect at JPMorganChase within the Core Infrastructure Platforms Architecture team, you will provide expertise to design, enhance, and evolve the firm's IaaS and compute platform architectures. You will own the technical vision for datacenter provisioning from bare metal through hypervisors to virtual machines, ensuring scalable, secure, and operationally excellent infrastructure that powers the firm's most critical workloads. Leverage your deep understanding of the compute stack and collaborate with platform engineering, cloud, and application teams to drive best-in-class outcomes. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on architecting modern compute platforms in a large, regulated financial environment. You will define platform capabilities, integration patterns, and automation frameworks that enable efficient workload deployment while meeting stringent regulatory and operational requirements.

Job responsibilities

  • Defines and owns the architecture for IaaS and compute platforms spanning bare metal provisioning, hypervisor technologies, and virtual machine lifecycle management; establish patterns for platform integration and automation.
  • Architects datacenter compute provisioning flows from hardware through virtualization layers; design frameworks for resource management, orchestration, and platform operations.
  • Designs and evolves hypervisor platform architectures across multiple technologies; define standards for cluster design, high availability, resource allocation, and operational management.
  • Architects platform integration with supporting infrastructure including storage, networking, identity services, and monitoring systems.
  • Embeds compliance and controls into platform designs; ensure regulatory requirements for infrastructure provisioning, change management, and access controls are met; align with firm policies and regulations.
  • Partners with engineering teams to drive automation and infrastructure-as-code; define configuration models, policy enforcement, and deployment workflows.
  • Develops reference architectures, design patterns, and platform blueprints that enable efficient and secure consumption of compute infrastructure.
  • Conducts architecture and design reviews; document decisions, risks, and exceptions; present in governance forums and lead technical discussions.
  • Drives platform observability and capacity planning; define approaches for resource utilization, performance monitoring, and cost optimization.
  • Promotes effective ways of working and team productivity; support backlog management and delivery tracking.
  • Mentors engineers and architects; foster a collaborative, outcome-focused culture.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software infrastructure architecture concepts and expert applied experience.
  • Extensive experience architecting and delivering IaaS and compute platforms in large, complex, regulated financial services or enterprise environments.
  • Deep expertise in hypervisor technologies and virtualization platforms, including architecture, design, deployment, and operational management of production environments.
  • Strong understanding of the full datacenter compute stack from bare metal provisioning (hardware, firmware, BMC/IPMI, imaging, PXE/network boot) through hypervisor layers to virtual machine lifecycle management.
  • Hands-on experience with compute platform integration: storage architectures (SAN, NAS, distributed storage), network virtualization (VLANs, SDN, vSwitches), and infrastructure management tooling.
  • Professional experience with infrastructure automation and orchestration: infrastructure-as-code frameworks, configuration management tools, CI/CD pipelines, and declarative platform models.
  • Demonstrated ability to embed regulatory, risk, and control requirements into infrastructure architecture and provide audit-ready evidence, change traceability, and compliance reporting.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management; able to collaborate deeply with engineering teams, vendors, and business partners to deliver pragmatic, scalable solutions.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with Windows Server and Hyper-V architecture, including failover clustering, Hyper-V Replica, Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), and integration with Active Directory and enterprise management systems.
  • Familiarity with multiple hypervisor platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi, KVM, Hyper-V) and ability to architect hybrid or multi-hypervisor environments.
  • Background in cloud IaaS platforms (AWS EC2, Azure VMs, Google Compute Engine) and patterns for hybrid cloud or on-premises/cloud integration.
  • Experience with container platforms and how they integrate with underlying IaaS/compute infrastructure (e.g., Kubernetes on VMs, container-optimized hypervisors).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure security and hardening: secure boot, TPM/attestation, firmware security, host-based controls, and privileged access management for infrastructure.
  • Experience with capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization across large compute estates.
  • Track record improving team productivity via agile ways of working, backlog management, and delivery metrics.
